Attitudes of parents and teachers regarding inclusive education in Georgia

Introduction. Inclusive education is based on the idea that every every child has the right to an education. Inclusive education was developed in Georgia from 2006 and this process continues. We were interested in what kind of opinions school teacher’s and parent’s have about this process. Methodology. Within qualitative research we interviewed 17 respondents. We selected 10 parents, 5 schoolteachers and 2 psychologists as our respondents and we were observing two school in Tbilisi. Results. Parents of typically
developing children do not have discriminative attitude towards children with special educational needs, but because of lack of information, they can not realize the importance of inclusive education. Parents of children with special educational needs appreciate system of inclusive education, but they think that in Georgia their children can not get all benefits from this process because of not straightened infrastructure and lack of special resources. Majority of schoolteachers understands importance of inclusive education for education system of Georgia, but they find this system badly arranged in our reality
