Perception of Road Traffic Safety Among Road Users and Their Behavior

Disease caused by injuries is one of the main problems in public health all over the world. According to the European status report on road safety (2009), the general tendency of mortality caused by road accident trauma in Georgia corresponds to the general European tendency. In Georgia, there is a lack of research on Road Traffic Safety. Objectives. The aim of the study is to explore the attitudes of the population regarding road traffic safety issues in Georgia. Methodology. Special questionnaire was designed for the survey. 250 randomly selected respondents were interviewed in Tbilisi (capital of Georgia). Results. Population across Georgia are informed about the road traffic safety issues; however, respondents declare risky behavior. Conclusion. It is important to prioritize road traffic safety, raise the awareness of the population toward road traffic safety issues, and improve the infrastructure.
